DBF Q&A #4
Q: To what extent can a damaged aircraft be repaired using spare parts or modules?
A: It must be essentially "repaired" not "replaced". Normal repairs can include "replacing" propellers, motors, controllers, servos or other internal components. Airframe structure generally must be "repaired" not "replaced" It is acceptable to "replace" a landing gear or gear leg, a control surface (and maybe a wing panel or portion of a wing depending on it's extent), but not an entire wing or fuselage.
Q: The rules state that all balls must be 'individually' handled, does this imply that each ball must come in contact with your hands or is it more along the line of most sports were the ball must be "under control" to be call handled?
A: I think this is well covered in the FAQ. If you have questions on a specific loading/unloading idea please send me more details (confidential) and I might be able to provide more of a detailed answer.
General:
We are working on an information packet for the fly-off giving more details of location, area hotels etc. It will be sent out soon. Each team is responsible for it's own travel and lodging reservations.
We do wish to point out that things have not been quite the same near and on military installations (and airports in general) since Sept 11th. While we are working to assure there will be no problems with students and faculty advisors gaining access for the competition, we do want you to be aware that "visitors" may be restricted or limited, and that restrictions could be imposed on very short notice as world events dictate. Therefore please notify anyone who was planning to attend who is not an active team member that while we will try to accommodate their attendance we can not guarantee it.
