I have a couple items that have ben asked by several teams, but aren't strictly rules interpretations, so I've been answering each one seperatly. Since they keep recurring, I've decided to pass them on to everyone. A recurring question has been where to find the required bottles for the DBF competition. The bottles required are the "milky" plastic bottles commonly found in chemistry labs, so a good source is your local chem department. They are also available from Cole Parmer, which is where most chem labs probably get them. An additional item is how many bottles are needed and if they can be filled before the flight. All the bottles you plan to use MUST be pre-filled before you go out to the runway for your series of flights. You can always dump some water out if needed to lighten them for a flight if desired. Since it's a lot of water, you probably want to bring a wagon or cart with you to carry them around. We will try to have some of ours there, but it may not be sufficient for all the teams. Each bottle may be flown on only one sortie during a given 10 minute competition period. Bottles will be unloaded after each sortie, and new ones loaded for the next take-off. All the bottles that have been flown will be weighed at the end of the 10 minute period for scoring. We will bring some form of marking to use to keep the bottles flown seperate from any additional bottles brought out to the starting line but not used during the sorties. I will be gathering information on hotel accomodations in the area, and hope to have that info passed on to all the teams in a couple of weeks. -Greg Gregory S.
