1996/97 Contest Season Data
The AIAA Applied Aerodynamics, Aircraft Design and Flight Test Technical Committees started the AIAA Design/Build/Fly Competition and held the inaugural event April 26, 1997. Over 20 teams entered the competition. Although not all of them made it to the contest fly-off held April 26, 1997, the contest was a great success. The winning teams presented their designs in a special session at the AIAA Applied Aerodynamics Conference in Atlanta, GA June 23, 1997. Note the rules evolve from year to year, so the 96 rules no longer apply.
